Overview
A cut down kit (also called a compact kit) is a variation of our standard garage door seal kits where the aluminum retainer sections are pre-cut into shorter lengths for more affordable shipping costs.
Standard Kit vs. Cut Down Kit
Standard Kits
Our standard garage door seal kits come with aluminum retainers in various configurations depending on the product.
Example: Ultra Rubber EPDM Garage Door Bottom Seal Kit
- 9-foot kit: Retainer comes in two (2) 4'6" sections
- 18-foot kit: Retainer comes in four (4) 4'6" sections
Note: Other seal kits may come in different retainer quantities and configurations.
Cut Down/Compact Kits
In our cut down kits, the aluminum retainers are divided into shorter sections of approximately 4 to 5 feet each. This modification allows the kit to ship in smaller packages, which significantly reduces shipping costs while maintaining the same quality seal and total length coverage.
What's Included
Cut down kits contain all the same components as standard kits:
- Seal material (full length as specified)
- Aluminum retainer (cut into shorter 4-5 foot sections)
- Mounting screws
- Rubber stoppers or end caps (depending on the kit)
Benefits
- Lower shipping costs: Shorter retainer sections fit in smaller packages
- Same coverage: You still get the full length of sealing material
- Easy installation: Multiple shorter sections are often easier to handle during installation
- Same quality: No difference in seal performance or durability
Installation Note
The shorter retainer sections install the same way as standard sections. Simply align each section end-to-end along your garage door and secure with the provided mounting screws.
